或许了解历史的人会觉得悲凉，甚至有点惋惜，但是世界就是这样，要往前发展，不管你做一件事情的目的有多么高的道德立场，如果你没有得到别人的帮助，那么就是失败的。

GNU 的作用客观的讲，如果没有的话，就没有开源的今天。但是仅止于此，让它坚守在哪里！

Berners-Lee transformed the world once. It would take a brave man to bet against his doing it again.

But if Solid might seem like a hopelessly ambitious and idealistic project, 我只想说的是，对抗权威的存在，一直都有人在。

我非常赞赏这些英雄，不顾普通民众，就是热爱出卖隐私，来换取物质或是某种蝇头小利。学术界早有定论，不然商家那么多的营销策略该如何生效？为什么人们买那么多的用不着的东西？

曾经我也一度认为Inner Source 是一些企业蛮好的选择，可是在那之前你要改变的是人们的观念，有的时候我在怀疑，你为什么要去改变人们的观念这件事，人家活的好好的。但话说回来，你只能改变那些愿意去改变的人，你永远无法叫醒一个装睡的人。

That business strategy is neither set overnight nor set in stone. It’s a slow and collaborative process that evolves with the level of maturity and adoption of the core open source projects. From basic enterprise support and services or light enterprise plugins to fully hosted platform with an entirely distinct codebase, there are many different shades of open core models. The choice of the open core and licensing models greatly impact the level of collaboration between the commercial open source software companies and their respective communities as well as internal company cultures.

作者是：Simon is CTO at SWIM.AI. He also co-founded Bromium, was CTO at Citrix, Founder and CTO of XenSource, and a Principal Engineer at Intel.

不得不佩服这些高管的资历，文章写得也是一流水准，受过相当的学术训练。观点也是非常的正。其中对于ML拥抱开源的解释是非常正！ 比如因为ML非常的先进，科学家们的参与也是重中之重。
